Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles
1909/8 $20 FS-301 MS62 PCGS. There are only two overdate varieties in the entire 20th century U.S. gold series, the 1901/0-S half eagle, and this 1909/8 double eagle. Specialists highly prize both varieties. The total production of Philadelphia Mint double eagles in 1909 was limited to 161,282 coins, and that total was about equally divided between the normal 1909 twenties, and the overdate coins. This pleasing light yellow example exhibits slight weakness on the high points that is masked under dark patina, with scattered marks as expected for the grade.
