1852 $10 Humbert Ten Dollar -- Repair -- NGC Details. AU. K-10a, Low R.4. A small depression near the neck and an area of smoothing on the shield may represent the repair noted on the holder, although surface granularity blurs most of the design elements. The effect is similar to several shipwreck coins we have seen of the Kagin-10 and 10a varieties, but there is no such information on the holder. Struck from an advanced die state with strong die cracks on the obverse, including one that reshapes the U in UNITED to look like I I. Rim crumble eliminates most of the dentils. This coin remains a collectible Gold Rush memento from the days when assayer Augustus Humbert was the nominal leader of the U.S. Assay Office. Listed on page 397 of the 2018 Guide Book.
