Thomas Allom (1804-72) architect, artist and topographical illustrator, b. Lambeth, lived in Barnes. He was a founding member of what was to become the Royal Institute of British Architects and worked with Sir Charles Barry on the Houses of Parliament. He produced a series 'Devonshire Illustrated' that was printed in London between 1828 and 1832 and is remembered for his drawings of Constantinople and the Scenery of the Seven Churches of Asia Minor, published in 1838, and China Illustrated, published in 1845
