BRITISH COINS, Henry VI (First reign, 1422-1461), Annulet issue, Groat, Calais/London mule, mm. cross II, annulets by neck, no fleur on breast, reads anglie, annulets under civi and lon, 3.33g/11h (Whitton p.69; N 1427/1426; S 1836/1835). Surfaces rather porous, otherwise better than fine, very rare £240-300

Provenance: Found on the beach at Eastbourne (E. Sussex).

Out of almost 2,000 Annulet issue groats in the Reigate (Brokes Road) Hoard, 1990, there was only one Calais/London mule (= Brady Collection, Spink Auction 209, lot 89). According to Stewartby (p.324) these coins were struck at Calais
