LAKONIA, Lakedaimon (Sparta). Circa 35-31 BC. Æ Sestertius (35mm, 27.83 g, 7h). Jugate heads of the Dioskouroi right, each wearing conical cap decorated with a laurel wreath / Large ΛA within laurel wreath tying below. Grunauer Group XX, 5 (V2/R5); BCD Peloponnesos 918; HGC 5, 614; SNG Copenhagen 592; Laffaille 375. VF, even dark green patina. Exceptional and among the finest known for this very rare issue (Grunauer knew of twelve examples, of which eleven were in public collections; CoinArchives only adds three further).
