KINGS of PERSIS. Baydād (Bagadat). Early 3rd century BC. AR Tetradrachm (29.5mm, 16.82 g, 3h). Istakhr (Persepolis) mint. Head right, with short beard, mustache, and earring, wearing kyrbasia with flaps tied behind / bgdt prtrk' zy (= "Baydād fratarakā of") in Aramaic down right, 'lhy' (= "the gods") in Aramaic up left, bgwrt (= "Baywārd") in Aramaic in exergue, Baydād enthroned left, wearing long cloak and kyrbasia, holding sceptre and cup, standard to left. K&M –; Alram 513; Sunrise 559; cf. Triton VI, lot 517 (for obv.; same die, but an earlier die state); cf. Triton VI, lot 516 (for rev.; same die, but an earlier die state). EF, toned. Overstruck on an uncertain mint tetradrachm of Alexander III type, likely an issue of Seleukos I.
