Moneyer issues of Imperatorial Rome. T. Carisius. 46 BC. AR Denarius (17mm, 4.05 g, 4h). Rome mint. Draped and winged bust of Victory right / Victory driving galloping quadriga right, holding wreath and reins. Crawford 464/5; CRI 73; Sydenham 985; Carisia 3; Type as RBW 1618. Good VF, lightly toned, banker's mark on obverse.

From the Andrew McCabe Collection. Ex English Amateur Scholar Collection, purchased in 1984, with his ticket – not in NAC 92.

Dots outside the border circle are often seen on the Rome coins of the mid 40s BC. These were on the original planchet, which was likely beaten with a hammer with indented surfaces, rather like a meat softener, but in this case intended to harden rather than soften the flans before striking.
