CHINA (PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC): AE medal, 1923 (1953), official restrike of the original Jiang'an-Beijing-Wuhan Railway Union medal, EF. In early 1922, Jiang Yan railway workers set up a workers' club under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. In April of the same year, Jinghan workers' club held their first workers' congress in Changxindian and decided to set up a general union. Jiang'an, Zhengzhou, Changxindian and other regions gradually changed their workers' clubs into subregional trade unions. On February 1, 1923, the Beijing-Shanghai Railway Federation held its inaugural meeting in Zhengzhou. Wu Peifu, the warlord, sent a large number of military and police personnel to enforce martial law, then banned workers from meeting and ordered representatives from all over to immediately leave Zhengzhou. The Union was forced to move to the river bank on February 3rd. On February 4th, the Beijing-Wuhan Railway started a general strike. On February 7th, 38 people, including the army and police officers, attacked the Union and the Jiang'an Trade Union Chairman Lin Xiangqian was killed and another 200 were wounded. This is the revolutionary struggle that shocked both China and the international community. The Jiang'an-Beijing-Wuhan Railway Union membership medal is bronze, round and engraved on the front edge with the title "Jiang'an-Beijing-Wuhan Railway Union Membership Card." The inner circle has the word "sacred labor." The center has the "double-wing wheel-shaped" pattern, the early emblem of China's railway. That year, there were about 23,000 members of the Jiang'an Railway Union. Only around 10 original medals are known, mostly in museums. It is unknown how many of the official 1953 restrikes exist.

Estimate: 75-100 USD
