[...] MAKPIANOC CЄB, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Macrianus right / NIKAIEΩN in exergue, octagonal walls of Nicaea with two gates. RG 867; SNG Copenhagen 543; SNG von Aulock 733; BMC 157. Very rare. Brown patina. Rough. Good fine.

The provincial coinage of Macrianus and his co-usurper brother, Quietus, is known from only Nicaea in Bithynia and from Alexandria in Egypt. This particular reverse type was struck for both brothers as well as for Gallienus.
