DANUBE REGION. Imitating Philip II. Ca. 3rd century BC. AR tetradrachm (24mm, 14.26 gm, 6h). NGC AU 4/5 - 3/5. Laureate head of Zeus right / ΦΙΛΙΠ-[ΠοΥ], nude youth, holding large palm branch, astride horse trotting right. Göbl OTA --, cf. 33. Kostial --, cf. 359. A fairly close copy of the Philip II Amphipolis type, lacking the imitative control marks usually seen; this exact type apparently unrecorded, but similar to many early Philip imitations in the region. Struck in high relief and attractively toned.
