MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the great (336-323 BC). AR didrachm (19mm, 8.30 gm, 10h). NGC Choice XF 5/5 - 2/5, Fine Style, scuffs. Posthumous issue of Babylon, ca. 323-317 BC. Head of Heracles right, wearing lion skin headdress / BAΣIΛEΩΣ AΛEΞANΔPOY, Zeus seated left, holding eagle and scepter, M in left field, ΛY below throne. Price –; cf. 3692 (tetradrachm) and 3693 (drachm), both with same controls. Hersh 78 (same dies). For another example see Triton XI, lot 805 (same dies). Extremely rare, only the third recorded specimen with these controls! Toning over obverse scrapes to cheek and reverse scuffs.
