IONIA. Smyrna. Ca. 150-143 BC. AR tetradrachm (34mm, 16.65 gm, 12h). NGC Choice AU 4/5 - 4/5. Head of Tyche right, wearing turreted crown, hair in parallel plaits along brown line, gathered at back and falling in loose tendrils on neck / ZMYP-NAIΩN in two lines and monogram of magistrate Metrodoros, all within oak wreath. Milne, Autonomous 165b. SNG von Aulock 2162 (same obverse die). An extraordinary example of this attractive stephanophoric issue, struck in high relief on an absolutely enormous flan.
