Leopold II silver "50th Anniversary of Independence" Specimen 5 Francs 1880 SP67 NGC, Brussels mint, KMX-8. While lacking a denomination, and residing in the KM "Unusual" book as a result, this celebratory type was struck to 5 francs specifications, and pairs with the smaller-sized 2 francs issue that bears the same conjoined portrait of Leopold I and II with denomination on the reverse. This example, an obvious presentation issue, displays a flawless strike, with nicely mirrored fields and pleasing cameo contrast. The surfaces remain mostly brilliant with light toning accents at the edges and no significant flaws. Extremely rare, with few examples of this special striking issue known, and only this piece certified by NGC.
