Republic silver "President Belzu" Medal 1850 MS63 NGC, Fonr-9551, Burnett-30A. 68mm/109.8g. Silvery luster peaks through dusky tan toned surfaces, and the design, depicting the head of President Belzu on pedestal being crowned by "Bolivia" on one side and a child sleeping with lion beneath a tree on the other, is sharply struck and sits in pronounced relief against the fields. One of the larger sized Latin American medals of the period, we note the most recent realization for an Uncirculated specimen coming in an auction held by German auctioneer Kunker in 2014, where an example that appears to be only slightly finer than the present piece brought 2,800 Euros or approximately $3,900 hammer at the time of the auction.
