Merovingian. Anonymous gold Tremissis ND (c. 570-670) Choice AU, Paris mint, Arnebodes as moneyer, 1.24g, MEC I-Unl, Prou-715. + PARISIVS CIVE, diademed bust right / + [ARNE]BODE MON, cross ancrée. Engraved in a very fine style relative to other types of comparable origin, this stunning piece features an exacting strike on a slightly undersized flan, the surfaces lightly toned and retaining much luster. Slight wear is noted just along the highpoints of the devices but does not extend into lower relief areas. The planchet is typical of these Neustrian issues in that it is of decent-quality gold and does not exhibit obvious flaws.
