Merovingian. Anonymous gold Tremissis ND (c. 570-670) AU, Paris mint, Vitalis as moneyer, 1.03g, MEC I-467 var., Prou-727. +PARISVS EIT, diademed head right / VITAL • IS MV, cross ancrée. Well-centered and sharply struck on a near-perfectly round flan, this charming issue of Neustria is a delight in hand. Both the mint city and moneyer are clearly legible, uncommon for these issues all too often plagued by undersized planchets. Rare.
