Carolingian. Hugh the Great (923-956) Denier ND MS62 NGC, Paris mint, 1.20g, Poey d'Avant-11. + [G]RΛTIΛ DI RVX (D and Rs retrograde), cross pattée / PARISI CIVITΛ (S retrograde), legend in two lines with a small cross above and below. An extremely rare issue of Hugh as Count of Paris and remarkably similar to the issues of Raoul during the same period, although with a cross in place of the Karolus monogram (cf. Dup-774). It is deeply toned with only minor striking weakness and is reportedly one of only two examples known of this type from this mint.
