Edward III of England (1327-1377) gold Écu d'or à la chaise ND AU58 NGC, Aquitaine mint, 2nd emission, from 31 March 1348. 4.51g, Fr-2, Dup-286A, Elias-33b (RR). + ЄDWARDVS : DЄI x | x GRA x | x AGL : FRANCIЄ : RЄX, King seated on Gothic throne, a sword in his right hand and his left supporting a shield / + XP'C : VInCIT : XP'C : RЄGИAT : XP'C : IMPЄRAT, cross fleurée with voided quatrefoil in center and at the ends of the limbs, leaves in angles; all within a quadrilobe with trefoils in spandrels. Attractively toned and quite rare, with sharp central details but significant striking weakness along the peripheries.
