Saxony. Friedrich August II "Vicariate" Taler 1740 MS63 NGC, KM902. Dav-2668. An incredible example of this fleeting Vicariate issue, showing the armored bust of Friedrich August II and the reverse imperial eagle motif. The broad surfaces are replete with classic cabinet patina, with fields that are brimming with silvery-gunmetal tone and outer registers that are encircled by darker charcoal color. A quick rotation under the light exposes some teal and oyster highlights that delicately brightened the handsome design elements. Some softness is noted throughout the features, but the fields remain impressively free of any distractions--quite a feat for a coin of this size and age--and unsurprisingly, this selection is currently the finest certified example of the type. Visually satiating and with an unmatched technical quality. Sold with a merchant's ticket showing a very low price of 20 (Marks?)
