Papal States. Clement XI Piastra 1702//II AU58 NGC, Rome mint, KM664, Dav-1429. A fairly scarce crown, exhibiting a deep cabinet tone and only the slightest degree of wear. Rarely offered, and only the third appearance of the type for our sales---the previous two being an NGC AU55 and damaged, respectively. The design of the reverse is enticingly elegant, featuring the pope kneeling before the Madonna of Santa Maria in Trastevere.
