Papal States. Pius IX gold 5 Scudi 1854-R MS65 PCGS, Rome mint, KM1116. Superb condition for the type; though there have been a number of graded examples on the market over the last decade, as best we can tell, this is the single highest graded specimen to come to auction in that time. Indeed, based on the current census of both NGC and PCGS, it would seem that this is the finest graded examples of either service- no small feat. Worthy of serious consideration.
