British Colony Counterstamped 4-1/2 Bits ND (1811-1818) AG3 NGC, KM9.1, Prid-13. Counterstamp (Fine Details) on a 1777 LM-MJ Peruvian 2 Reales. The stamp, cruciform in shape, was meant to read "S IV1/2 B", and is boldly impressed atop a well-worn 2 reales of Charles III of Spain. Very rare, Pridmore was only aware of three examples when his volume on West Indies coinage was published and while more have turned up since that time, the number of known survivors is still incredibly small. Of those, none have appeared at major numismatic auction in over 6 years, and to our knowledge, none appear on a Peruvian host. An important occasion for the dedicated specialist in the series thus.
