In inner circle, seated allegorical Europe receives palm branch from winged genius; in outer circle, busts of leaders of Austria, Prussia, Turkey, France, Great Britain, Sardinia and Russia alternate with angel motifs. A very rare medal, struck by Turkey to celebrate the Treaty of Paris, signed in 1856, that ended the Crimean War waged by Russia against an alliance of the Ottoman Empire, British, France and Sardinia. A Superb Gem, the surfaces of this example retain superb gloss with intermingled iridescent tone and minimal evidence of handling. The last sales record of a bronze specimen that we were able to find came in a 2011 Gorny & Mosch auction where a similarly preserved example hammered for 1,400 Euros.
