Augustus (27 BC-AD 14). AV aureus (21mm, 7.88 gm, 6h). NGC Choice VF 5/5 - 4/5. Spain (Colonia Patricia?) 25-22 BC (Calicó) or 18-16 BC (RIC). No legend, bare head of Augustus right within linear circle / AVGVSTVS, Capricorn flying left, holding rudder and globe in forelegs, cornucopia over shoulder. RIC 127. C 24. BMC 344. Calicó 167. Scarce. A few minor pecks, otherwise an attractive aureus struck on an exceptionally broad flan.

According to Suetonius, Gaius Octavius, later known as Augustus, was born the morning of September 23, 63 BC, under the sign of Capricorn. His natal sign was later featured on many of his coins and featured as the blazon for Roman legions formed during his rule.
