Victoria brass "Narrow 9" Pattern Cent 1859 AU Details (Surface Hairlines) NGC, London mint, cf. KM1 (bronze). A technical pattern which saw some use in circulation, the extremely rare issue in brass is highly sought after by enthusiasts of Canadian copper as well as business strikes in general. When encountered, examples generally exhibit a higher degree of wear and/or problems, making the present specimen clearly a premium piece. The surfaces are a bright yellow-brown, while the number of hairlines, despite its designation, appear to remain fairly modest. A highly pleasing and enchanting representation of this exotic type, and one that is obviously more attractive than the last example which we sold, a PCGS VF20, which realized a hammer of $15,000 in our 2017 CCE auction (sale 3054, lot 30392).
