George V 5 Cents 1921 MS62 PCGS, Ottawa mint, KM22a. A Mint-State survivor and a key piece in Canadian numismatics, displaying gunmetal tone in dappled fashion across both sides and noteworthy underlying luster that manages a warm glow from the recesses. The surfaces as a whole are rather pleasing, with few post-strike handling effects showing through the patina, while the raised portions retain a sharp appearance throughout. The surviving mintage of this issue is thought to be under 500 pieces, with few examples in this technical quality having been offered in the marketplace in recent past. The decision to change the 5 cent from the current silver metal to nickel had a significant impact on this date, with the reserve of the only other year from this series--1920--and nearly the entire 1921 mintage, having been sent to the melting pot. For the advanced collectors of conditional Canadian rarities, this offering ticks all the boxes.
