Danish West Indies
Christian IX gold 4 Daler (20 Francs) 1905 (h)-GI PR65 Cameo NGC, Copenhagen mint, KM72, Fr-2. A gorgeous Gem survivor of this presentation issue with minimal handling over the surfaces and delicate tone at the edges that suggests decades of mindful collector storage. Undoubtedly a specially prepared coin, both sides display considerable reflective qualities, with intense inspection revealing die polish lines that run vertically in the fields and confirm a careful production technique. Both the portrait of Christian on the obverse and the charming female personification of Liberty seated on a ship's prow that comprises the reverse design are also boldly frosted, creating a profound cameo appearance for the viewer. A very rare coin in absolute terms, with a mintage that was likely around 10, and presently the only example in either the NGC or PCGS census to receive the cameo designation. An undeniable showcase coin for the collector of West Indies coinage.
