Louis XIV Ecu au buste juvénile 1667-(9) MS65 NGC, Rennes mint, KM214.4, Dav-3802a, Gad-206. An exceptionally brilliant and argent piece, yielding bright, blazing surfaces and an incredible degree of luster remaining. The fields are astonishingly impeccable, displaying just a hint of die rust before the king's portrait. Seldom are 17th century crown-sized specimens encountered in such an impressive gem status. The only comparable example which we could locate would be an NGC MS66 of a later date Rennes mint (1668), which realized an impressive hammer of $13,000 in our 2017 ANA auction (sale 3056, lot 30215).
