Great Britain
Charles II gold "Elephant" 5 Guineas 1668 AU55 PCGS, Royal mint, KM430.2, S-3329. VICESIMO edge. A bold survivor of the type that features the emblematic elephant hallmark below the King's laureate bust, indicating that the gold specie used to produce this coin came from The Africa Company of Merchants. Both sides are handsomely covered in a faint layer of mottled tone while remnants of luster still radiate from the open fields. Grade-aligning wear and handling do little to deter the viewer from the central designs, which remain bold from nearly all angles. For an undeniably popular type that is demanded at all levels, this lightly circulated example should draw great attention from even the most discerning collectors.
