George II gold Guinea 1740 MS62 NGC, Royal mint, KM577.1, S-3676. A scarce type when encountered at the Mint State level, complete with a mature portrait of George II that features the customary noble laurels and prominent hair curls that rise boldly above the fields. The reverse shield motif has been produced with an equally strong strike, save for the usual center-softness so often observed on this issue. Plenty of original luster abounds, and few distracting marks are present across both sides, all of which aid in the strong technical grade, and further this selection's eye appeal. Tied for the finest graded at NGC, and accompanied with a celebrated pedigree to boot, easily the most collectible example of this date that we've encountered.
