Victoria silver Proof "Jubilee Head" Pattern Florin 1887 PR64 PCGS, ESC-2950 (R7 - "One or Two Examples Known"). An extremely rare pattern for the Jubilee coinage of Victoria, struck with similar characteristics to the adopted design, but illustrating a slightly smaller bust that sits farther from the beaded border as well as a die signature for the engraver, Joseph Edgar Boehm, that reads I.E.M instead of the adopted J.E.M. A borderline Gem, this pattern possesses extreme sharpness at the rims and through the design as well as full, deep reflectivity in the fields. Both sides display a pleasing placement of toning, the obverse offering a blend of gold and mauve in the fields with yellow and green peripheral accents, while the reverse showcases more autumnal shades. Further inspection yields a small as-made metal irregularity that meanders across a section of reverse, and while its presence is of little visual significance, it ultimately helps to confirm this piece as the plate coin for the English Silver Coins (ESC) catalog. As such, an exciting opportunity for the collector enamored by Victorian beauty and rarity.
