George V silver Proof Pattern Crown 1910 PR65 NGC, Royal mint, ESC-387 (R5). Plain edge. Mintage: 10. by Allen G. Wyon. Bold and beautiful doesn't even begin to describe this offering, but it's a start. The centers of both sides are incredibly engraved, showing the high-relief portrait of the King in definitive splendor as each lock of his hair and strand of his bread are crisply struck and incredibly layered, while sublime lilac-gray color radiates from the fields and a touch of cobalt color rests at the base of the soaring motifs. The reverse design, perhaps the ultimate focal point on this issue, shows the stylized Art Deco depiction of St. George armed with his long lance, piercing the dragon, with the entirety of the image embraced by teal iridescence. On the conservative side of the grade, with a fresh and flawless appearance that typically corresponds to a finer designation. Currently the recipient of the finest certified example of this extremely limited issue, ticking all the boxes for the specialized collector of scarce British patterns, and sure to bring a commanding price at the fall of the hammer.
