Great Britain
Elizabeth II Matte Proof 5 Shillings (Crown) 1953 PR65 PCGS, Royal Mint, KM894, S-4136, ESC-4334 (R7). An extremely desirable modern rarity, only a handful of examples have come to auction in the last 15 years. Though the Standard Catalog of World Coins lists 1-2 examples known, auction records suggest a few more than that- still, likely less than 10 known examples in total. Though a few raw ones have sold in Europe, the closest graded comparable result was an NGC PR64 in 2005 for a hammer price of $3,800. Though a respectable grade, most collectors would strive to attain a true Gem Mint State example, such as the present specimen. Very likely this will set a new world record for the type once all is said and done.
