Vittorio Emanuele III gold Matte Proof 100 Lire 1925-R PR63 NGC, Rome mint, KM66, Fr-32, Pag-645. Obv. Bare head of Vittorio Emanuele III left, with oak tree and iron crown of Lombardy below. Rev. Nude athlete left, holding banner and Victory. Even light golden patina, with bold strike and only minor marks. Endlessly popular as a one-year type among world gold collectors due to its atypical "matte" striking format and because of its dual purpose striking: to commemorate the 25th year of Vittorio Emanuele III's reign as well as the 10th anniversary of Italy's entry into World War I. Regardless of the stated grade, this is one of the more impressive examples of this type that we have seen.
