Vittorio Emmanuele III gold 100 Lire 1936-R Anno XIV MS64 NGC, Rome mint, KM83, Fr-35, Pag-650. Commemorating the Conquest of Ethiopia and the Expanding Italian Sphere of Influence. Obv. Bare head right. Rev. Roman soldier advancing left, holding victoriola and fasces over shoulder. Boasting an impressively minuscule mintage of just 812 pieces, this brilliantly lustrous near-gem exhibits a charming cartwheel radiance along with a blissful golden-orange tone. Some light hairlines are evident, and are the only thing preventing a much higher designation. A similarly graded NGC MS64, though exhibiting a fair number of spots, realized a hammer of $10,000 in our 2010 NYINC auction (sale 3008, lot 22409).
