Mexico
Philip V gold 8 Escudos 1743 Mo-MF MS64+ NGC, Mexico City mint, KM148, Fr-8, Onza-441. A designation and quality seldom encountered within this popular series, the present example is as close to a gem as one can possibly get with its impressive 'plus' status. The surfaces are rich in radiant and brilliant luster, while an alluring golden-orange tone envelopes the fields and devices. It is difficult to envision a more beautiful example for the date, and indeed, NGC has graded none finer, as this majestic specimen stands alone. A truly elite coin meant for the connoisseur of Mexican or Latin American in general. A very similar piece from 1744, also an NGC MS64+, realized a hammer of $34,000 in our 2015 ANA auction (sale 3041, lot 31078).
