Alexander III Rouble 1893-AΓ MS65 NGC, St. Petersburg mint, KM-Y46, Dav-292, Bit-77. A wondrously exceptional gem, this enchantingly toned specimen yields steel gray surfaces along with a palette of goldenrod and burnt sienna to delight the eye. Cartwheel radiance abounds throughout, while the impeccable nature of the fields cannot be overlooked. Clearly one of the finest of this date which we have offered--our most recent MS65, also certified by NGC, can be seen to exhibit a fair number of contact marks that one would think would have prevented such a grade, but in any event, it pales in comparison to the present example. For comparison, the aforementioned piece realized a hammer of $8,650 in our 2013 NYINC auction (sale 3021, lot 22592).
