Nicholas II copper Pattern Kopeck 1916 MS65 Brown NGC, St. Petersburg mint, Bit-370 (R3), Brekke-3, UZD-3961 (RRR). Obv. Crowned double-headed eagle in plain circle with surrounding legend of "1 Kopeck" repeated 5 times. Rev. Large "1" in beaded circle with plain field, date and value below. A gem example of this exceedingly rare pattern issue. The strike is full, with lustrous reddish-brown patina and surfaces free of notable marks. I can find no other example certified by NGC or PCGS and only one previous sale of this type. Dmitry Markoff sold an uncertified piece in his January 2014 New York auction described as, "A few tiny deposit spots on obverse and somewhat mottled dark areas in reverse field. Uncirculated." This piece sold for $27,500 hammer price.
