George VI "Waffle Cancellation" 1/2 Rupee 1943-B UNC Details (Mint Cancelled) NGC, Bombay mint, cf. KM552. In 1945, the British Administration was withdrawing silver coinage from circulation and a "waffle" cancellation was ordered on George VI 1/4, 1/2 and 1 rupee coinage. After cancellation, these coins were never intended to leave the mint, however, an employee of the Bombay Mint must have kept this piece as a souvenir. Rather desirable today as a result.
Note: The NGC insert list the date as 1946, however this type ceased production the year prior. Therefore, the only possible date for this coin, given the partial legibility of the date, is 1943.
