Mexico
Charles IV silver Proclamation Medal 1790 MS62 PCGS, Mexico City mint, Grove-C-78. Rare in silver and especially so this well preserved, with minimal handling and deep tone over the obverse with windows of brilliance on the reverse. As is detailed in the reverse legends, this type was struck to commemorate the fidelity of José Mariano de Sardaneta and Llorente, Segundo Marqués de San Juan de Rayas in Guanajuato. Ironically, he would later be exiled to Spain for conspiracy and would later return and become part of the Mexican Independence movement where he would sign the Act of Independence of the Mexican Empire in 1810.
