World Currency
Cyprus Government of Cyprus £5 15.3.1958 Pick 36a. The highest denomination of the series and the last to be issued under the "Government of Cyprus" name before the country declared independence. The 1958 £5 note is the only one issued with that date and the only one to carry the signature of T. S. C. McIlwain as Commissioner of Currency. It is reasonable to suppose that the previous issues of that denomination were almost exhausted from circulation and Treasury reserves and that there was a need for such a denomination in the market, given the fact that the 1957 note was issued in low print run. Much of the print run was destroyed before being issued. This date, along with the ultra-rare 1960 £5 are the rarest of the five pound QEII banknotes. The underprint remains attractive on this lightly circulated example which is well centered on both face and back. PCGS assigned it an Extremely Fine 40 grade, which is the highest listed in their population report. HID08701242017

Estimate: 2000-3000 USD
