Great Britain Operation Bernhard Counterfeits £20 20.9.1930 S-B 183 Nine Examples. German SS Major Walter Bernhard Kruger assembled in 1942 a group of Jewish artists, engravers, printers, and technicians in Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp in order to counterfeit British paper money. These notes were the result of their clandestine work. Operation Bernhard denominations and prefixes are listed on page 164 in World War II Remembered by C. Frederick Schwan and Joseph E. Boling. This is an About Uncirculated grouping from the M43 block. Each note has a small right edge notch and several pinholes. The notch was executed in order to mark these as counterfeits. Another example has an approximate one inch top edge tear, another piece has a small top edge notch, and a third has a bottom edge notch and an approximate .75 inch bottom edge tear. HID08701242017
