Norway Norges Bank 500 Kroner 1976 Pick 34f. An appealing portrait of Niels Henrik Abel (1802-29) is seen at left on this lovely note printed in green ink on a brown underprint. His image was used for the watermark as well. Abel was a Norwegian mathematician. Although his career was short, a mere six or seven years, he accomplished a tremendous amount. Hermite, one of the leading mathematicians of the day, stated, "Abel has left mathematicians enough to keep them busy for five hundred years." When Abel was asked how he had performed so much in such a short time he replied, "By studying the masters, not the pupils." The signature combination of Wold and Odegaard is found on this well preserved example that bears the last issue date for this design. PCGS Gem New 65PPQ. HID08701242017
