COLOMBIA. Banco de Márquez. 100 Pesos, 188_. P-S586p. Archival Record Book Face and Back Proofs. Uncirculated.
This is a stunning pair of India paper color proofs of the highest denomination from the series and a large format type. There were only 500 notes authorized for printing in May 1882. Finding an issued note would be next to impossible, though the Banco Nacional reissued remainders in 1899 during the "1000 Days War." The soft baby blue face tint complements the layout. Portrait at the center. Left end with regally clad Columbus with an Indian princess. The back is deeper blue. One of the most handsome Latin American types and this record book page offers a real showpiece for display. Though several proofs of this type were in the 1990 ABN sale, there was only one set like this. Uncirculated.
From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Paper Money.
Estimate: $1000.00- $2000.00
