COLOMBIA. 1784-JJ Real. Santa Fe de Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) mint. Carlos III (1759-1788). Restrepo 38.13. G-6 (PCGS).
The last of the Carlos III Real issues from Colombia, the 1784 stands out as a rarity in the series. This one is worn but superbly original, with excellent dark color that becomes richest near the rims. Free of problems, well struck and well-centered, this coin is picture perfect. The Restrepo plate coin is sharper but holed. This example was graded "problem-free Fine" in the Murias sale, a more accurate assessment of its quality than that offered by PCGS.
From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian and Ecuadorian Coins.
From Daniel Frank Sedwick's sale of the Jorge Ortiz Murias Collection (Auction 11), April 2012, lot 1026.
Estimate: $600.00- $1200.00
