Marius. Romano Gallic usurper. A.D. 269. Æ antoninianus. 2.86 gm. 19 mm. Unidentified mint. His radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right; IMP C M AVR MARIVS AVG / Victory standing left, holding wreath and palm; VICTORIA AVG. RIC V.2 17. Near Extremely Fine/ Good Very Fine; crisp strike, superb portrait of outstanding individual style; attractive glossy brown patina; bit of roughness and verdigris on reverse. Rare, and even more so in this condition, and with a well-struck reverse.

Marius' portraits with a short beard vary remarkably in style, and this is a superb example.
