Roman 'Epigraphic' Æ Scale Pan. Circa 2nd-3rd century AD. Cast convex bronze disc with three evenly spaced piercings, likely the pan from a balance, or scale. On the inner surface a stamped inscription within an incuse rectangle reads "BANNA F", perhaps an abbreviation of Banna F[ecit], 'Banna made [this]'. The outer surface is blank. Cf. Read, B., 'Metal Artefacts of Antiquity', Langport, 2001; cf. Record BLC-4008 on the artefacts.mom.fr website, listing the various different stamps and examples known. 3.08g, 19mm.
About Good Very Fine. Slightly chipped edge between 6h and 9h which has broken into the piercing; otherwise complete, and with a clear inscription.
