Constantine II, 337-340. Siliqua (Silver, 21 mm, 3.10 g, 6 h), Aquileia. CONSTANTI-NVS P F AVG Rosette-diademed and cuirassed bust of Constantine II to right. Rev. GAVDIVM POPVLI ROMANI; in four lines within laurel wreath, VOT / XX / MVLT / XXX; in exergue, AQ. Cf. Gorny & Mosch 151 (2006), 477 (miliarense). RIC -. Apparently unpublished and unique, a coin of great interest and importance. Flan cracks and with an edge chip, otherwise, very fine.
RIC only knew an extremely rare solidus struck to commemorate Constantine's vicennalia. The appearance of the Gorny & Mosch miliarense and our siliqua, however, show that the issue, as with other mints, must have been more broadly planned, but was apparently quickly discontinued.
