Battle of Navarino brass Medal 1827 MS64 PCGS, Eimer-1196; Dogan-6475; MH-136 Var. Nicholas I. By Boyard. 35mm. LA FLOTTE ANGLO FRANCO RUSSE VAINQUIT LES TURCS A NAVARIN LE 20 OCTOE.1827. Head of Athena, right, signed below truncation / DE RIGNY - CODRINGTON - HEIDEN (Henri de Rigny, France; Sir Edward Codrington, Great Britain; L.P. Heiden, Russia). Three crowns with three crosses between, Admirals' names in the legends. To commemorate the Battle of Navarino. Insert notes "Great Britain".
The combined fleets entered the Bay of Navarino on 20 October and anchored against the Turkish Fleet commanded by Ibrahim Pasha, intending to intimidate them. The attempt by the boats from H.M.S. Dartmouth to move the fireships brought on the general action which was fought at anchor. Losses were heavy and it was considered an "untoward event".
