Skythia, Olbia Æ13. Circa 360-350 BC. Turreted and wreathed head of Demeter left / Archer crouching left, drawing bow; OΛBIO upwards to right. SNG BM Black Sea 547 (same dies); SNG Stancomb 405 (same). 2.29g, 13mm, 7h.

Very Fine.

Bearing a reverse type quite unlike the usual sea eagle and dolphin types seen from Olbia, it comes as no surprise that the archer issues such as the present piece were struck during a period of conflict between Olbia and Chersonesos, a conflict that ended unsuccessfully for the Olbians.
